What Are Porcelain Crowns?
Crowns are caps that fit over a damaged or irregular tooth. Our dental crowns are made from porcelain. Porcelain is an excellent material for creating an artificial tooth because it has the same whiteness and durability of human teeth enamel.
Why Do I Need Dental Crowns?
A dental crown may be recommended if our dentist sees that you have any number of the following:
- Broken, chipped, or cracked tooth
- Tooth that has been overcome by decay
- Irregularly-shaped tooth
- Tooth that is discolored
What Can I Expect During the Porcelain Crowns Procedure?
In most cases, it takes about two visits to complete the entire process:
- Consultation – Our dentists will take a look at your teeth and gums to see what dental work has been done to your mouth already. We want to make sure that a dental crown is in fact the best treatment for you.
- Teeth Whitening Recording – We want to make sure the new crown we place on your teeth has the same whiteness as your other teeth, so we will measure your current teeth’s whiteness level.
- Base Tooth Creation – To make sure that the crown fits in with your other teeth, we gently file down around the affected tooth to create a base.
- Crown Bonding – Once we have the crown created from our lab, we will place the crown on your base tooth and cement it together.
