What Is a Dental Bridge

A dental or fixed bridge is a bridge to fill in the gap left from your mouth’s missing teeth. We place two crowns over the two teeth opposite the gap, then we place an artificial tooth, also called a pontic, in the gap in between the teeth and connect everything via the dental or porcelain bridge.

During our consultation, your dentist will go over specific procedures that will be used for your unique situation.

When or Why Would I Need a Dental Bridge?

Our knowledgeable and caring staff will help determine whether a dental bridge is right for you. Typically, getting a tooth bridge can do the following for you:

  • Complete your smile
  • Fill in the space from a missing tooth
  • Enhance your chewing ability
  • Help with your speaking depending on which of your teeth are missing
  • Replace or upgrade any partial dental work done with this longer term solution
  • Help to keep your other teeth from moving out of position because of the gap

Procedure

Usually it takes at least two visits to complete your affordable dental bridge work.

  1. First Visit – Consultation & Tooth Preparation.
  2. Second Visit – Dental Bridge Connected

First Visit – Dental Bridge Procedure

While the procedure may be slightly different for front teeth or back teeth, the main process will be mostly the same. During our consultation we will determine whether you need a single or 1-tooth bridge, or perhaps a 2, 3, 4, or 5-tooth bridge, depending on the severity of your situation. The next step is for us to file down your abutment teeth (teeth surrounding the gap) to make an area for the crowns, which will be what connects the permanent bridge to your surrounding teeth.

We will then create a mold from your teeth to create a metal, ceramic, or porcelain bridge specifically designed to fit perfectly on your teeth.

Second Visit – Dental Bridge Procedure

During your last visit we will test the bridge to make sure it fits snugly on your teeth. Once confirmed your dentist will permanently place the bridge over your crowns, connecting everything together restoring your smile!

How Should I Care for My Dental Bridge?

As with most dental procedures, proper oral hygiene and care such as brushing and flossing regularly will be helpful in the lasting success of your bridge. Also, any time you come in for your regular teeth cleaning, we will be sure to inspect any previous dental work done to make sure everything is still operating correctly.
