We have some of the highest level dental equipment available and you can know that your dental crown process is being carried out by the absolute best in the industry.
When Do I Need Dental Porcelain Crowns?
There are a variety of reasons that the need for a dental crown would arise:
- Chipped, cracked, or broken tooth
- Irregularly shaped tooth
- Top-level tooth decay
What Are Porcelain Crowns?
Dental crowns are a way to replace most of your tooth with a porcelain artificial tooth. The porcelain material we use at OC Smile is incredibly durable, beautiful, and will match the whiteness level of your other teeth. Porcelain is very similar to teeth enamel.
While there may be a different solution to your tooth problem listed above, many times crowns are a great way to help your affected teeth while improving your smile.
What's the Dental Crown Procedure Like?
During your visit with our Fullerton dentist, we will examine your mouth to make sure there are no signs of gum disease, you have minimal plaque and tartar buildup, and also to see if any previous dental work in your mouth such as bridges or fillings are still in place.
Once we determine that a dental crown is the best course of action to repair your tooth, we will begin the porcelain crown process:
Take Mold - During your first visit we will take a mold of your teeth to be used for creating a crown that will match your teeth.
File Down - Then on your second visit using hi-tech, safe dental equipment we will gently file or shave down your tooth's enamel. This will form the base for your dental crown.
Insert Crown - On your second visit we will have received your dental crown from our lab and we will then insert it over the base of your tooth.
Depending on the severity of your tooth's condition, we may recommend to have us completely remove the affected tooth and insert a dental implant. Typically we will do this when the tooth's nerves and connective tissue have been damaged irreparably. In this case we would not use a damaged tooth as the base for the crown, we would use the dental implant as the base.
